BIRKENHEAD WOODCRAFT FOLK The Woodcraft FolkThe Birkenhead Woodcraft Folk is part of The Woodcraft Folk, a national voluntary educational organisation for children and young people, based on equality, friendship, peace and social justice through active co-operation. Through our group night activities, camps and community events we hope to enable children and young people to develop personally, to question the world in which they live and become actively involved in creating a better future for their local and global communities. The Woodcraft Folk is a registered charity: Number 1073665.Birkenhead Woodcraft FolkBirkenhead Woodcraft Folk has a 70-year history in the area, and is now based on the edge of Oxton. We run weekly groups for children and young people, aged between 0 – 18. The activities we run are based on equality, democracy, participation and co-operation, and include games, drama, singing, craft, problem solving, discussions and issue based work including local, national and global campaigns. Through our involvement in local community events, we hope to encourage young people to become actively involved in their communities, as well as supporting their participation in their own initiatives and projects. We also take the group camping and hostelling in this country and abroad.Birkenhead Woodcraft Folk Play Out! Project Birkenhead Woodcraft Folk also runs the Play Out! Project, funded by Children In Need. Play Out! is a free, open-access, outdoor play scheme for all children, operating in the parks and estates around Birkenhead in the school holidays. Activities on offer include co-operative games, arts and crafts, parachute games, and wide games to encourage children to explore and appreciate where they live. Play Out! aims to encourage children and young people to enjoy the benefits of playing out in a safe environment, and to make our local green spaces more accessible to the community through co-operative play. It is also a chance for local children to become involved in planning and organising games for each other in their communities.
